Massages: How Do They Benefit You?
As we all know, massages produce a pleasant and relaxing sensation. But are there any benefits to massages? Are they good for you? Or do they simply produce a good feeling for you? Massages are remarkably beneficial. The most popular benefit is stress relief. But there are many other benefits.
What massages basically do is speed up the metabolic processes. How do they do this? When your muscles are pushed upon, pressed, or manipulated, the muscle tissue initially increases its contraction and relaxation rates. Blood enters and leaves the individual muscle fibers much faster. This facilitates the excretion of metabolic wastes, such as lactic acid, which is one cause of soreness in muscle tissue. At the same time, the brain releases endorphins, which causes the peaceful and relaxed state of mind. There are many other benefits of massages. They are listed below:
- A decreased breathing rate in; intensified feelings of wellness; calm; relaxation; and happiness; and a sense of belonging.
- An increased range of motion; improved body posture; skin color and tone
- Improved blood circulation; emotional well-being; decreased pain and stress
- Stimulate the lymph system, the body's natural defense, against toxic invaders.
- Temporarily provides relief of pain associated with arthritis by increasing joint flexibility.
- Release endorphins, the body's natural ability to reduce everyday minor aches and pains in the elderly.
- Massage acts as a "cleanser" pushing along the lymph and hastening the elimination of wastes & toxic debris.
- Massage improves muscle tone and helps prevent or delay muscular atrophy resulting from forced inactivity. Massage relaxes muscle spasms and relieves muscle tension.
- Massage improves nutrition of tissue by increasing the interchange of substances between the blood and tissue cells, subsequently increasing tissue metabolism.
In summary, a massage can benefit you in a variety of ways. It can relieve pain and increase your range of motion, stimulate your body's lymphatic flow and help the body get rid of metabolic wastes.It can also help increase flexibility in the joints, eliminate depression and anxiety, improve circulation to tissues and organs, relax tired, injured and overused muscles, and release endorphins that act as a natural painkiller and relieve migraines. With all of these benefits, I encourage you to check into receiving massage therapy, or better yet, buy some basic massage tools and equipment for your own personal use in the privacy of your own home. Be sure to contact your physician before getting a massage if you have chronic or severe illnesses.
